Prunus blireana
Purple-leafed Plum
A good spring blossom tree, this deciduous tree grows to around 5m tall. It has slender, arching branches, double mauve pink flowers, and reddish purple leaves which turn purplish green in summer. Flowering time is from mid August to mid September. This hybrid is sterile, so does not produce fruit.
Uses
A nice feature tree for Spring blossom with double pick flowers. Great along driveways and avenues.
Preferred Position & Soil
Performs best in a fertile soil, with good drainage in a sunny position. After flowering thin out the centre and make room for new growth by removing old, non-productive wood.
