Feature Trees by the Season | A Guide to Creating Year-Round Interest

	Acer palmatum 'Sango Kaku' (syn. 'Senkaki') Coral Bark Japanese Maple Tree This tree has attractive double serrated leaves with five to nine lobes. They are green in colour during spring and then turn a bright yellow with an orange tinge at autumn. The striking bark turns a brighter red in winter providing colour throughout the year.
	Magnolia x soulangeana 'Black Tulip' ™ Black Tulip Magnolia Tree (deciduous) This hybrid deciduous magnolia features deep purple, goblet shaped flowers which provide a knock-out display in late winter and spring before any leaves appear, creating a great contrast against its dark branches. Foliage appears after flowering and is a matte green colour. This is a woody, deciduous, upright growing tree which flowers from quite a young age.
	Betula pendula 'Moss White' Moss White Silver Birch Tree This tree has bright green foliage that turns to a pale yellow in Autumn. The trunk is a grey colour when young gradually turning to white. It produces long hanging pale green catkins. 'Moss White' has been selected for its bright white bark.
	Eucalyptus leucoxylon rosea Red-flowering Yellow Gum Tree This tree has a smooth trunk with cream to grey coloured bark which sheds in flakes. It has narrow shaped green leaves and as it matures, forms a large open canopy. From Autumn to Spring, an abundance of red flowers appear in clusters of three attracting a variety of birdlife.
	Allocasuarina torulosa Forest Sheoak Tree This tree has a corky light brown bark that has deep fissures.The leaves are thin green needles like a pine tree. There are female and male trees with gold male flowers in Autumn and female rounded warty cones. In Winter the branchlets turn a beautiful copper colour.
	Tristaniopsis laurina 'DOW10' Luscious ® Luscious Kanooka Gum Tree, Water Gum Tree This is an improved variety of the regular Tristaniopsis laurina, a native Australian rainforest tree. Leaves are dark green, shiny and large - and as the name suggests, luscious in appearance! New growth starts out a distinctive copper colour and further interest appears over time with the branches developing deep purple coloured bark which peels back to reveal a smooth, cream trunk. Small trumpet like flowers are yellow and sweetly perfumed, appearing in clusters through summer.
	Liriodendron tulipifera Tulip Tree This is a beautiful very large tree with large leaves that have a lovely shape and smooth soft texture. It has striking orange-yellowish flowers decorated with flecks of green in spring. The flowers are solitary and sit in the extreme upper-most branches, resembling tulips, hence the common-name reference to the tulip tree.
	Prunus serrulata 'Cheals Weeping' (weeping standard) Cheals Weeping Ornamental Cherry Tree This old Japanese weeping cherry is a prolific flowerer. Spring sees the pendulous branches covering themselves with a show-stopping display of clear, rose pink double blooms. It is highly ornamental, right down to its shiny, coppery coloured peeling bark. New foliage emerges a bronze colour, changing to green into the warmer months turning to gold, orange and red hues in autumn.
	Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Tuscarora' Crepe Myrtle Tree (hot pink) This deciduous tree has small oval shaped green leaves which turn a stunning reddish/orange in autumn. The most striking part of the tree is the beautiful display of vibrant, hot pink, crinkled flowers which appear in late summer. Flowers form on new growth, and so are encouraged by winter pruning. Bark peels off to reveal a smooth trunk which is beige in colour with red-brown streaks.
	Jacaranda mimosifolia Jacaranda Tree This fast-growing tree is an elegant specimen with soft, green foliage which turns yellow in winter before shedding. Flowering occurs in summer, when purple, bell-shaped blooms are produced, covering the canopy. The seed pods are very distinct fleshy curved green pods that eventually dry and open. It is an attractive open tree with branches upwardly ascending. A great summertime feature due to its stunning purple flowers.
	Nyssa sylvatica 'ST1 Red Rush' Red Rush Nyssa, Tupelo Tree This is a special selection of Nyssa exclusive to Speciality Trees. It is a deciduous ornamental tree with a round form and glossy green foliage throughout the growing months. It has a slightly pendulous habit and dense canopy. It's a striking tree that produces outstanding autumn colour. We expect this in maturity to be smaller in size to straight Nyssa sylvatica.
	Acer rubrum 'Autumn Red' Canadian Maple Tree This is a very common deciduous tree in North America. It is a beautiful rounded tree with ascending branches when young, maturing to a more rounded canopy. Great for autumn colour. Leaves stay green longer than other varieties before turning bright orange to deep lipstick red. All parts of the tree, for example flowers, twigs and seeds, are red in varying shades. This tree is also known as 'October Glory' or 'April Splendour'.
	Eucalyptus pulverulenta 'Baby Blue' (Tree form) Silver-leaved Mountain Gum (tree form) This is a small-growing eucalypt usually seen as a tall, spreading shrub that retains its juvenile foliage into maturity. Young leaves, stems and inflorescences have a powdery white bloom. Foliage is strikingly silvery-grey and round in form. Cream flowers are produced between May and November and the large capsules that follow are cup-shaped.
	Corymbia citriodora 'Scentuous' (syn. 'Dwarf Pink') 'Scentuous' Dwarf Lemon-scented Gum Tree This is a slightly narrow-domed Corymbia (syn. Eucalyptus), developed by Speciality Trees, doesn't shed its branches. It has a smooth trunk that may be slightly mottled. The bark is a pinky-salmon in colour. Leaves are narrow and highly aromatic when crushed smelling strongly of lemon. This tree features lovely cream-coloured flowers in summer.
