Are you bored with the same thing? Looking for inspiration in the garden but don't just want to follow everyone else? Here is a list of fabulous 'others' to consider.

Albizia julibrissin

Persian Silk Tree

A very adaptable, small deciduous tree useful as a feature tree in a park or garden with the right space. It produces a delicate display of pink pompom-like flower heads in summer atop of branches. Fine, feathery foliage provides nice dappled shade in summer. Butterfly attracting.

Azara microphylla

Vanilla Tree

Azara microphylla is a small evergreen tree from South America with small deep green foliage that grows in a pinnate like form on slightly pendulous branches. Small yellow flowers are borne in spring and bring with it a nice vanilla scent.

Brachychiton populneus x acerifolius 'Jerilderie Red'

Jerilderie Red Brachychiton

This is an attractive densely canopied tree that grows to approximately 8m tall and 7m wide. It has a bloated trunk and large lobed leaves. During the summer months, the tree is densely packed with stunning powdery-red flowers that are shaped like small bells.

Clethra arborea

Lily of the Valley Tree

This is an evergreen shrub or small tree with glossy green leaves. The foliage is dense and could be used as an informal screen. Long clusters of small, white, bell-like 'lily of the valley' flowers are produced in summer and autumn.

Catalpa bignonioides

Indian Bean Tree

This is a large attractive tree with a broad dome-shaped canopy and large long-stalked leaves. In summer it carries bell-shaped flowers in white, various pink shades, and soft apricot-orange, followed by clusters of long, pendulous, bean-like seed capsules, hence its common name.

Cercidiphyllum japonicum

Katsura Tree

A deciduous tree with a pyramidal habit when young, gaining a more rounded shape when mature. The leaves are heart shaped and have a coppery-green hue when they emerge, turning dark green and then colouring to yellowy-red in autumn. This tree has inconspicuous flowers and its value as an ornamental tree lies in its dramatic foliage. Fallen leaves smell of burnt sugar when crushed. An excellent frost hardy specimen tree.

Koelreuteria paniculata

Golden Rain Tree

This species is an elegant, slow-growing small tree. It has serrated, green, pinnate leaves and branches which droop at the ends creating a slight weeping effect. The foliage turns bronze to gold in autumn and is held on the tree until quite late in the season. In summer, chains of bright yellow flowers are produced, followed by papery lantern-like seed pods which hang from the tree in large clusters. In maturity, the grey-brown bark will develop furrows. Also in maturity, the tree becomes more rounded in shape with an overall flat canopy and gnarled appearance.

Pistacia chinensis

Chinese Pistachio

This lovely small, deciduous tree has a moderate growth rate and great autumn colour in shades of orange, yellow and red. Bark is dark grey with shallow furrows and this variety is capable of withstanding relatively harsh conditions. Interesting pinnate leaves emerge green and leathery and although inconspicuous, clusters of small white flowers are borne in summer, followed by red drupes which mature to blue.

Zelkova serrata 'Green Vase'

Green Vase Japanese Elm

A fast-growing, medium-sized, deciduous tree. 'Green Vase' matures to a graceful, uniform V-shaped tree with a short trunk and upright branching. Bark is distinctive, predominantly in shades of yellows and light greys and has a flaky appearance revealing additional textures and tones of orange, brown and pink. In autumn, the dark green leaves held through spring and summer turn to an array of colours ranging from soft yellows to orange and rusty reds.
