Recommended Trees for Paths & Driveways

There are a number of trees suitable for paths, entrance ways and driveways. These trees have a smaller canopy, are fastigiate, columnar or conical in habit. Plant in multiples with space in between or close together depending on your desired look!

Acer platanoides 'Crimson Sentry'

Upright Crimson Norway Maple Tree

This is a flashy crimson foliaged maple with dense upright branching. It has a compact growth habit with large crimson leaves in summer turning to gold and orange in autumn. Adds great colour contrast foliage. This is a small tree with grey-black bark that is lightly textured.

Ginkgo biloba 'Lemonlime Spire'

Dwarf Maidenhair Tree

This is a smaller fastigiate form of Ginkgo with lime-green summer foliage that is creased in appearance. In autumn, it presents with clear, yellow foliage. As a male clone of the species, its fruit does not carry an unpleasant scent. Only growing to 5 tall, this tree is both narrow and compact in form.

Magnolia grandiflora 'Sweet Carolina' ™

Sweet Carolina Magnolia Tree (evergreen)

'Sweet Carolina' is a medium growing evergreen tree to 4m tall. It has glossy mid-green leaves and stunning huge creamy white flowers with a heavy perfume in spring and summer. Light burgundy new growth in spring is very attractive.

Pyrus calleryana 'Capital'

Capital Ornamental Pear

This tree has a narrow growth habit with luscious shiny green leaves that hang vertically from branches. An attractive curl in the foliage adds further interest and the slender, columnar shape lends itself well to tight spaces. In autumn, leaves turn a purpley-red colour and spring brings a beautiful display of lovely white flowers followed by small, russet coloured fruits.

Syzygium australe 'Hinterland Gold'

Hinterland Gold Lilly PIlly

A native shrub with a dense habit. This is a fast-growing variety well suited to hedging and screens. Compact glossy green foliage develops a lovely coppery hue in the new growth. During the warmer months, white fluffy blossom are borne, followed by fleshy red berries.

Thuja plicata fastigiata

Upright Western Red Cedar (Arborvitae)

A relatively fast grower, reaching approximately 5m in the first 10 years. Mid green horizontal branchlets droop slightly and the lush, cedar-scented foliage is flat and dense in habit making it ideal for creating a privacy screen or windbreak in a small space as it will reach a width of only 1.5 metres. It has a compact conical, upright growth habit and responds well to pruning, even reshooting from bare wood after a hard prune. Thuja is immune to canker disease.

Waterhousea floribunda 'ST1' Whisper (syn. Syzygium)

Whisper Weeping Lilly Pilly

Unique to Speciality Trees and our best-selling and most popular tree! This is a versatile, bushy tree with a wonderful weeping habit making it perfect for large screening projects and the softening of fence lines. Propagated from Victorian mother-stock, unlike other Waterhousea, so responds better to all weather conditions, including cooler climates. New growth starts off pink and orange with leaves turning to various shades of green as the foliage matures. Foliage is maintained to the base of the plant giving a year-round lush, full appearance. It forms a small quantity of creamy-white flowers in summer. Berry production on 'Whisper' is unlike other Lilly Pillies, with minimal quantities of small green berries that, whilst bird attracting, these fruits are tucked in amongst the foliage and are not obvious.

Olea europaea 'Tolley's Upright'

Tolley's Upright Olive (Low Fruiting)

This is a low-fruiting variety of olive tree that has an upright growth. Responds well to pruning and can be grown with a single leader or easily pruned into a hedge for screening. Foliage is silvery.
