Beautiful Summer Ready Trees

These lovelies are roaring to go into a beautiful landscape, but as with all summertime plantings, make sure you keep them irrigated particularly over multiple days of high heat.

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Natchez'

Crepe Myrtle (white)

This small, deciduous tree creates great interest throughout the year. In summer, clusters of spectacular white, crepe-paper like flowers are produced. Following this, the dark green leaves add further interest as they transition into autumn, turning a rich bronze-red colour before falling. Bark also provides colour as the tree matures, with its flakiness revealing the rich, brown underbark. A beautiful growth habit and resistant to mildew, this variety will tolerate periods of dryness once established.

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Sioux'

Crepe Myrtle (hot musk pink)

Creating quite the visual impact over a lengthy period, this variety offers masses of intense, pink flowers over summer, followed by stunning, rich foliage colour in tones of yellow, red and orange through autumn, before shedding its leaves. When mature, the bark of this variety will peel, creating a mottled effect to reveal the beautiful caramel-pink colour of its underbark.

Callistemon citrinus 'Kings Park Special'

Kings Park Bottlebrush

This native shrub or small tree is very hardy and adaptable to a wide range of locations and soils. It is generally trouble-free, growing to about 4m high and 2m across. The flowers appear as beautiful crimson spikes which are borne in spring and summer. Requiring little to no maintenance, this variety flowers over a lengthy period and the slender, green foliage forms a neat, rounded appearance.

Magnolia grandiflora 'Teddy Bear' ™

Teddy Bear Magnolia (evergreen)

This is an evergreen, upright growing magnolia reaching 4m. Being naturally dense in habit, with a tight, compact form, it is ideal used as an informal hedge. Leaves are large and rounded - glossy and dark green on top with felted, bronze undersides. Gloriously large white flowers appear during the warmer months from late spring through to autumn.

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Tuscarora'

Crepe Myrtle (hot pink)

This deciduous tree has small oval shaped green leaves which turn a stunning reddish/orange in autumn. The most striking part of the tree is the beautiful display of vibrant, hot pink, crinkled flowers which appear in late summer. Flowers form on new growth, and so are encouraged by winter pruning. Bark peels off to reveal a smooth trunk which is beige in colour with red-brown streaks.

Jacaranda mimosifolia

Jacaranda

It has got to be one of the feature trees of summer! And you need to be quick in the earlier months of the year to secure stock. For those people with Jacaranda already planted - Well done! We hope you are enjoying one of the most notable summer displays going around!

Lagerstroemia indica x fauriei 'Zuni'

Crepe Myrtle (purple)

This variety can be used as a shrub or small tree. Foliage has red tinges when young and matures to a shiny dark green, with autumn foliage providing a colourful display of orange, red and maroon. Stunningly beautiful and free-flowering, masses of violet purple flower trusses appear from summer through to autumn. Bark provides further interest as it peels, creating a mottled effect on the trunk. Relatively-hardy, this variety is resistant to powdery mildew and will tolerate periods of dryness once established.

Fraxinus pennsylvanica 'Urbdell'

Urbanite Ash

This tree is attractive and tough. It has a pyramid shape with a strong, upright trunk and develops grey brown bark which becomes deeply furrowed as it matures. Yellowish-green flowers are produced in spring and in autumn, dark green, glossy foliage turns a beautiful bronze colour before falling. Suitable to a wide variety of both residential and commercial projects, it has a moderate growth rate and adapts to most soils and conditions.

Ficus microcarpa hillii 'Flash'

Flash Ornamental Fig

This could be a tall spreading shade tree, but mostly we see this tree ordered for its thick foliage and suitability for instant hedging and screens. 'Flash' has super attractive foliage that consists of different shades of green. They are great for clipping into a tight formal hedge, as a topiary specimen or a screen to 10m if left untrimmed. Just prune to keep shape! They also cope well in many growing situations and soils, in full sun or part shade.
