Trees the Colour Purple for Residential & Commercial Landscaping

These are trees that are hard to photograph but look sensational in the garden. Purple-flowering and/or purple-foliage trees create beautiful contrast for residential and commercial landscaping as well as council open spaces.

	Acer palmatum atropurpureum Purple Japanese Maple Tree A beautiful small tree growing to approximately four metres in height. Produces dark purple leaves in spring, turning redish in the summer months before turning scarlet in autumn. Great multi-seasonal foliage colour.
	Acacia cognata 'Burgundy Cascade' Burgundy Cascade Weeping Wattle Tree A stunning shrub or small tree with cascading foliage. This Australian native has thin smooth green leaves with a burgundy edge that gives it an interesting range of colour throughout the year. The flowers are small, ball shaped, pale yellow and speckled throughout the foliage.
	Cercis canadensis 'Forest Pansy' Burgundy Redbud This small, attractive tree has spectacular heart-shaped, burgundy coloured leaves that continually change colour throughout the year. A rich purple in spring, the foliage transforms to green over summer, followed by a multi-coloured autumn display in tones of red, apricot and gold. The branches have a distinctive, smooth, dark brown wood which contrasts well with the blossom like pink flowers that are borne before the re-emergence of leaves in spring.
	Acer platanoides 'Crimson Sentry' Upright Crimson Norway Maple Tree This is a flashy crimson foliaged maple with dense upright branching. It has a compact growth habit with it's large crimson leaves in summer turning to gold and orange in autumn. Adds great colour contrast foliage. A small tree with greyish black bark that is lightly textured.
	Prunus persica 'Crimson Cascade' (weeping standard) Crimson Cascade Weeping Ornamental Peach This is a beautiful grafted specimen with long pendulous branches. Foliage is crimson-purple in spring, turning to a softer reddish-dark-green during the summer months. Flowers are a deep crimson-red.
	Leptospermum obovatum 'Starry Night' Starry Night Tea Tree A versatile, fast growing shrub with fine, deep purple foliage forming a graceful, weeping habit with its purple-pink new growth. In late spring and summer, bronze buds open to a profusion of long-lasting snowy white flowers. A great Australian native adaptable to a variety of soil types and conditions and can be used as a screen, hedge or specimen plant.
	Cotinus coggygria 'Grace' Smoke Bush This deciduous shrub/tree has beautiful reddish/purple leaves darkening in summer. This variety turns a range of beautiful colours in autumn such as orange, red and yellow. The flower plumes are greyish giving an enhanced smokey effect.
	Prunus x blireana Purple Ornamental Plum A good, vase-shaped flowering Plum tree for spring blossom (sometimes incorrectly referred to as a Cherry). This deciduous tree is relatively small growing to around 5m tall. It has slender, arching branches, double mauve-pink flowers, and reddish-purple leaves which turn purplish green in summer. An early flowering variety, it heralds the warmer days as they arrive with a beautiful display of slightly fragrant blossoms from mid-August to mid-September. Being a hybrid variety it is sterile and does not produce fruit.
