Acer palmatum

Foliage Deciduous
Form V-Shaped
Mature Size 4 x 4m
Family Aceraceae
Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum can vary in height and size a little because they are grown from seed but in all cases it is a lovely small tree and very popular. They have a five lobed leaf and light green spring foliage usually turning deep orange and crimson in autumn.

Ideal for small gardens, attractive street trees and can also be grown in containers, ensuring the container is large enough.

The leaves can be easily spoilt by sun and wind, so a part shade or afternoon shade position is ideal. Avoid a location that is unprotected from north or west afternoon sun, or hot winds in summer. They will thrive in well drained, organic rich soil.
