Carob Tree

Native to the Mediterranean, this is a hardy, fast-growing evergreen tree known commonly as the Carob Tree where its seedpods or beans are a substitute for chocolate. Foliage is green, densely-packed and glossy. Flowers are small and petal-less, starting out yellow and turning red over time.

Great foropen spaces, parks and reserves, Can be clipped to a hedge. The fragrance of flowers is known to be unpleasant so it is not advised to plant this tree close to open windows or living spaces.

Tolerant of heat and drought resistant. It is well-suited to hot, dry areas and can adapt to nutrient poor soils.
