This is a large, bushy shrub or can also grow into a low lying tree with twisted branches. The grey-green, oval-shaped foliage produces small white flowers in spring or early summer that are scattered throughout the tree.

It has been used extensively in coastal areas as a wind break and can also be used as an informal hedge. Can also be pruned to keep shape.

It is a hardy shrub for moist soils in a range of climates. It prefers full sun or part shade. It is tolerant of salt spray making it particularly useful in coastal areas.
