Prunus x blireana

Foliage Deciduous
Form V-Shaped
Mature Size 5 x 3m
Family Rosaceae
Purple-leafed Plum

A good, vase-shaped tree for spring blossom. This deciduous tree is relatively small growing to around 5m tall. It has slender, arching branches, double mauve-pink flowers, and reddish purple leaves which turn purplish green in summer. An early flowering variety, it heralds the warmer days as they arrive with a beautiful display of slightly fragrant blossoms from mid-August to mid-September. Being a hybrid variety it is sterile and does not produce fruit.

A nice feature tree for spring blossom with double pink flowers. Great along driveways and avenues.

Performs best in a fertile soil, with good drainage in a sunny position. After flowering, thin out the centre and make room for new growth by removing old, non-productive wood.
