Quercus robur

Foliage Deciduous
Form Round
Mature Size 11 x 11m
Family Fagaceae
English Oak

This is a large, stately and long lived variety of oak with a low branching canopy. It is somewhat stout in appearance due to its trunk and secondary branches being quite thick. Silvery grey to black bark develops deep fissures giving it a rugged appearance as it ages. Foliage is lobed, oval in shape and turns reddish to yellow just before falling. Small, inconspicupous, green or pale yellow flowers are produced in spring followed by egg-shaped green acorns which mature to dark brown.

A great feature tree. Great streetscapes and large gardens and parks.

They do best in full sun, but young oaks will tolerate a shady position. Oaks prefer soil that remains moist.
