Robinia pseudoacacia 'Inermis'

Foliage Deciduous
Form Oval
Mature Size 4 × 2-4m
Family Leguminosae
Mop Top Robinia (Locust)

This tree is a thornless, naturally topiarised Robinia with an upright growth habit. A moderate-growing variety which presents as a standard, with a ball of foliage which sits above a straight trunk. Foliage is bright green, turning yellow in autumn and long, fragrant white flowers appear in late spring or summer, followed by reddish-brown pods. Better suited to a relatively protected site as branches can be brittle and will snap in areas with high winds.

A great tree for planting in streetscapes. Looks great planted in avenues. Good as a feature tree in smaller gardens.

Is tolerant of most soils in a full sun to part shade position. A tough plant which tolerates full sun and sandy, drought-prone soils but also heavy clay soils. Clip to size yearly, or leave it to grow to pendulous wider canopy
