There is something about a social challenge that makes us all review our lifestyle going forward. Being somewhat closer to nature and self-sufficient is a nice feeling. While not a big part of what we do, our advanced edible and fruiting trees offer a ready-made solution.

Acca sellowiana

Pineapple Guava, Feijoa

This is a small evergreen fruiting tree to approximately 3m tall. It produces green-skinned fruit with a sweet, aromatic flavour, which taste like pineapple, apple and mint. As a tree, it has attractive leathery green leaves with silvery undersides and pinky-white flowers with large red stamens. Good as a contrast tree in the garden.

Ficus carica 'Black Genoa'

A fast growing, medium sized deciduous tree growing 3-5 metres tall. During summer, this variety produces masses of excellent quality, delicious dark red fleshed fruit with purple-green coloured skin. Self-pollinating and producing two crops per year, it is a reliable and heavy cropper with a vigorous spreading habit. This is a great variety for making jams, drying or eating fresh.

This is a small deciduous tree with bold, deeply lobed leaves and insignificant flowers followed by edible fruit which are first green, but purplish when ripe. Usually produces one crop of fruit per year. Foliage has a distinct shape.

Laurus nobilis

Bay Tree

Native to the Mediterranean, the bay tree is well known for its culinary use, often added to soups and stews. It is an upright, hardy evergreen tree with deep green, aromatic foliage. Leaves are glossy and oval in shape and hang from red-brown branches. In spring, yellow buds appear, opening to clusters of fluffy yellow flowers, adding a lovely contrast amongst the foliage. Tough, beautiful and useful, this tree lends itself well to hedging and is also an excellent choice for topiary.

Malus domestica 'Granny Smith'

A small fruiting tree, used as a feature in a small garden or planted in a group where there is more space. This variety of apple is tip bearing, with bright green skin. It has a tart flavour with a crisp texture.

Malus domestica 'Pink Lady' ™

Pink Lady Fruiting Apple

An Australian bred fruiting apple with bright pink blushed skin and crispy, smooth-textured flesh, making it a wonderful eating/dessert apple. Ripening late in the season, from mid to late May, this variety stores well and is self-pollinating, however will be much higher yielding if cross-pollinated with a companion. Foliage is green with a slightly downy underside turning yellow in autumn.

Malus domestica 'Red Fuji'

Red Fuji Fruiting Apple

This variety produces a crisp, firm and juicy apple good for eating fresh and brewing into cider. The fruit is medium-sized with skin colour described as a dull red over a green-yellow background with some russet tones.

Olea europaea 'Frantoio'

Frantoio Olive

‘Frantoio’ is the most noted olive oil variety of Tuscany, Italy and grows more like a tree than a bush with an open and airy canopy. Ours stand at a planted height between 2.5-3.5m so they are close to their fully mature size. As a mature specimen, each specimen is gnarly and unique particularly seen through its patterned trunk. While they may throw the occasional fruit, they have been grown for ornamental purposes making them a stand-out selection for projects looking for outside pull or a point of difference.

Olea europaea 'Mission'

Native to the Mediterranean, Olive trees are generally hardy trees with good tolerance to poor soils. This one is no exception. The Mission Olive grows between 4-9 m depending on conditions. Ours is grown as a single trunk specimen. The grey-green leaves are thick and leathery. Fruits start green, and turn black when they ripen.

Prunus armeniaca 'Storey'

Storey Apricot

This variety produces large, golden fruit with some red blush. Flesh is deep yellow and firm. 'Storey' is actually a fast-growing, early-fruiting version of the Moorpark Apricot.

Prunus armeniaca 'Trevatt'

Trevatt Apricot

The Trevatt apricot is a popular apricot that produces a large-rounded, sweet, pale-skinned fruit in significant quantities. They respond well to a thinning when the yield gets too large. Harvest is mid-season. It is a self-pollinating variety.

Prunus persica nucipersica 'Goldmine'

Goldmine Nectarine

This is a popular variety of nectarine bred in New Zealand. It is red and yellow in appearance with white flesh. Fruit matures in late February - March and is in abundance. This variety has good resistance to leaf-curl. This is a variety with low-chill requirement, so is suitable for a wide range of climates.

Prunus armeniaca 'Glengarry'

Glengarry Apricot

This is a heavy cropping variety of Apricot with small golden fruit with a slight blush. A large, vigorous tree. One of a few varieties of Apricot that will crop in the subtropics.

Prunus armeniaca 'Newcastle'

Newcastle Apricot

Newcastle produces a rounded, medium to large yellow-orange fruit with light green shoulders. Its flesh is orange, soft and juicy. It is an early harvest, free-stone variety that is self-fertile.

Prunus avium 'Merchant'

Merchant Cherry

This is an upright, deciduous cherry tree. Fruit is large and heart‐shaped. They have dark red skin and golden‐red flesh. They are sweetly flavoured and are available early in the season. Requires a pollination partner like 'Lapins' Cherry for best results.

Prunus salicina 'Santa Rosa'

Santa Rosa Japanese Plum

This is another attractive deciduous fruiting tree for small gardens with strong upright growth. It produces a large sweetish purplish plum highly regarded for eating, preserving and stewing. The flesh is yellow.

Prunus salicina 'Satsuma'

Satsuma Japanese Blood Plum

A small and attractive fruiting deciduous tree, leaves are green and flowers before the onset of fruit, are pink and white and fragrant. It is rich, juicy and dark red from skin to stone and is sweet and flavoursome.

Prunus salicina 'Elephant Heart'

Elephant Heart Japanese Blood Plum

This Japanese freestone plum produces large, heart-shaped fruit with a firm, sweet and juicy blood-red flesh. It has a distinctive flavour.

Pyrus communis 'Packham's Triumph'

Packham's Triumph Fruiting Pear

This is an Australian heirloom pear bred in Molong, NSW, a small town in the central west of NSW and dates back to the late 1800's. It is a great eating pear with smooth, green to yellow skin and juicy, white flesh which is sweet and rich in flavour. Fragrant, white flowers are borne in spring and the fruit ripens from late Autumn to early Winter. This variety will benefit from cross pollination, rewarding the grower with an abundance of beautiful, sweet dessert pears.
