Speciality Trees is proud to present another Council Forum focusing on how to get 'Green' on the community agenda.

This time around we have the opportunity to listen to the unique insights of Ian Shears, his experiences, objectives and vision associated with a number of progressive urban landscaping projects over ten years with the City of Melbourne.

Guest Speakers:

Ian Shears

Ian Shears is one of Australia’s leading experts in urban landscapes and urban forestry. He has specialised in horticulture for over 20 years and has worked for over a decade with the City of Melbourne. He currently leads the Urban Landscapes branch with City of Melbourne, heading up a dynamic team with a focus on Open Space and Park Planning, Urban Forest Planning, Green Infrastructure, Water Sensitive Urban Design and Landscape Adaptation for Climate Change.  Ian and his team have been credited with the development of some of Australia's most progressive environmental projects and polices.

His progressive approach to urban planning and community liveability will make for insightful listening.

Dr Anthony Kachenko:

As the Research and Market Development Manager with the Nursery and Garden Industry Australia, Anthony Kachenko is passionate about the benefits of ‘green’ in the community for positive health and wellbeing. With an eye on the National picture, he will share some preliminary research results regarding the measurement of canopy cover involving 137 local government areas across Australia and discuss current opportunities in Canberra for the Green Industry sector.

Anthony will also provide an update on the National Tree Standard and discuss the implementation of and developments achieved so far with the introduction of NGIA’s 202020 Vision initiative.
