Tree Carpinus betulus Common Hornbeam




Description An attractive deciduous feature tree with a broad-domed crown and smooth pale grey bark. Its leaves are distinctively ribbed and serrated. Provides autumn interest in the garden as it changes from dark green to yellow. Yellow catkins are prominent in spring. This variety is often pleached.    
Mature Size 12 x 6m    
Uses Great as a feature tree for autumn colour. When clipped it makes an attractive hedge.    
Position & Soil While it prefers a humus rich well-drained soil, this variety adopts well to different soil types. Feed well in late winter for best results. For full sun or part shade.
