Description This is a colourful and distinctive native with linear narrow foliage. The orange or red poker-like flower spikes are borne from June to October on old wood. Flowers are followed by woody seed pods. In cultivation seeds are rarely produced, but retained within the tree for initiation after harsh environmental conditions such as bushfire.

Uses Hakeas can be found in many different environments including in the mountains, along the coast and in more drier, desert areas. The most diversity in the genus occurs in the south of Western Australia where it originates.    
Position & Soil Grows well with other shrubs to provide support from wind, to which it is quite susceptible. A position in full sun produces best flowering and a compact habit. The species tolerates dry conditions and is considered frost resistant. Requires good drainage to perform well.
