Description Native to China, Asia and the Himalayas this is a large, long-lived but slow-growing tree with dense foliage. It has a pyramidal shape when young but this rounds with age. Male catkins are yellow and pendulous and appear in spring, whereas female catkins appear with leaves. Produces acorns. Produces fissured dark brown bark. Foliage changes from dark bright green to golden yellow in autumn.

Uses Being an oak tree with seasonal variation, this variety makes an attractive and interesting year-round feature tree.    
Position & Soil While it prefers moist, acid, well-drained soils in full sun, it can tolerate poor soils. Is considered high frost tolerant with moderate drought tolerance.
