Position & Soil Plums like an open, sunny position with well-drained soil. Add organic matter or animal manure to improve the fertility and structure of the soil. It is recommended to build up the level of topsoil to ensure good drainage. As a taller Plum, keep pruned year-to-year to maximise accessing fruit for picking.
